We continue our series highlighting questions we have received on our Houzz projects. Martin Bros. This week we answer questions on the Dream Lake Home Shower Area Photo. This one photo has garnered 24 questions and has been saved to 71,468 idea books at writing. We are not posting all 24 questions below, as some are a repeat.

Houzzer: How can I find the wall stone for my living room?

Martin Bros. Contracting, Inc.: It’s a mixture of granite fieldstone and cobblestone. Stone can be purchased through any masonry stone supplier in your area.

Houzzer: Where can I buy this shed?

Martin Bros. Contracting, Inc.: If you are talking about the shower surround, it’s PVC fencing. It was purchased through & installed by Vinyl by Design in New Paris, Indiana. Here is the link to their website: Vinyl by Design

Houzzer: What is the source (store and/or manufacturer) of the panels used for the shower enclosure? Thanks.

Martin Bros. Contracting, Inc.: It is vinyl fencing material by Vinyl by Design .

Houzzer: Where can I get plans for the shower? I live in Florida, and this looks ideal. Thanks

Martin Bros. Contracting, Inc.: The shower was custom designed for this home. We would suggest contacting an architect or builder in your area so that they can visit your home and design a shower to fit your space.

Houzzer: what is the white color named used here?

Martin Bros. Contracting, Inc. The invoice simply states “white”. You may want to check with Vinyl by Design if you need more specific information.

Houzzer: What is the shower floor made of? Also, do the shower walls repel mildew and mold? Thanks!

Phil Jenkins, Architect: The floor is Ipe (Brazilian hardwood) over recessed concrete drain basin. Surround is PVC fence, which is mildew resistant. (Walls may be easily washed down with dish soap and water.)

Houzzer: Hi!! Love this shower and want to do something similar this spring. What are the dimensions?

Martin Bros. Contracting, Inc.: The plans have been archived, but in an earlier discussion the architect stated that the shower base was 5’x6′.

Houzzer: Love this. Could you please tell me the exposure of the shingles?

Martin Bros. Contracting, Inc.: The Shakertown Craftsman Cedar Shingle Panel has a 7” exposure.

Houzzer: Are there any similar colors in vinyl?

Martin Bros. Contracting, Inc.: Not knowing where you are from, makes this a very difficult question to answer. Not all siding products are available in all regions of the United States or worldwide. Since this is natural cedar, matching it with a man made product will be difficult at best. We trust James Hardie siding products.

Houzzer: How did you treat the shingles? Transparent stain? What color, brand?

Martin Bros. Contracting, Inc.: The siding is Shakertown Craftsman Cedar Shingles finished with one coat of factory applied Cabot Bleaching Oil. You may find the shingles here: Shakertown Craftsman Shingles

Houzzer: Was it sealed after the bleaching oil? Also, how do you best maintain the look of the shingles over the years? Thanks!!

Martin Bros. Contracting, Inc.: The owner chose not to seal. Since we do not know the climate in which your home is located, we cannot answer the maintenance question properly. We refer you to this link by Cabot: Maintain Your Stain

Houzzer: Great shower. Please tell me where to get the outdoor plumbing fixtures.

Martin Bros. Contracting, Inc.: Delta products were used on this particular shower. We recommend that you contact a plumbing professional or plumbing supply company that is familiar with the climate in your area. They are better equipped to make a recommendation.

Houzzer: Very nice. Is it necessary to protect the plumbing from freezing at the valve?

Martin Bros. Contracting, Inc.: Thank you, since the home is in an area with extreme winter temperatures, the plumbing is winterized each fall.

Houzzer: Can you tell me where and what the light is above outside shower? Black light, outdoor marine grade?

Martin Bros. Contracting, Inc.: The color is actually bronze. We did not furnish the lighting; it came from the owner and designer. They shopped for the exterior lighting through Indiana Lighting Center, Inc. Similar fixtures are most likely available through any reputable lighting supplier.
